Why Mbappe wears No.9 for Real Madrid but No.10 for France

Growing up, Mbappe’s idol was Cristiano Ronaldo, so naturally he always wanted to wear the No.7.

And that dream did come true for him at PSG.

But for France, that number was and still is occupied by Antoine Griezmann.

So as he rose to prominence as a teenager, the French national team decided he should get the No.10 and that has stuck till this day.

Meanwhile, you’d think that at Real Madrid, that No.7 shirt was just waiting to be his.

But instead, he was given the No.9, because the No.7 is occupied by Vinicius, who over the last few years has shown he’s more than deserving of it.

So the club were never going to take that away from Vini and risk ruining the harmony between him and Mbappe.
